Every month, Shenton Safaris selects 3 pictures among those taken by our guests during their visit at Kaingo and Mwamba. Make sure your best shots are emailed to us so we can add them to the pool. Our next themes will be “Hooved” for August and “Miscellaneous” for September.
Our theme for July was Luangwa Sunset.
JULY 2012 WINNER
By David Cox, June 2011
“I am a young at heart (but old in body!) driving instructor from Gloucester, UK. Together with my wife, Jenny, and son Sam, I first visited Africa over 11 years ago and totally fell in love with the continent. We have travelled quite extensively around Southern Africa but this was our first visit to Zambia. We were drawn to Shenton Safaris by the fact that they were very “photo” orientated and the experiences we had certainly backed this up.”
Settings. Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 1/2000sec at f/4.0. Focal 70mm. ISO 800.
JULY RUNNER UP
by Christopher & Lisa Gibbs, September 2007
“We work in the veterinary field in the UK, and had previously travelled, particularly in Southern Africa, in search of more exotic wildlife. All those we met who had visited the Luangwa valley, raved about it. In 2007 we changed from film to digital in anticipation of our visit to Zambia. We chose Kaingo (equipped with our newly purchased DSLRs), attracted in part by its reputation for catering for photographers, and were not disappointed.
The “Acrobat Storks” were spotted on an evening drive with our guide Innocent who, like all Shenton’s guides, was adept at stopping the vehicle at exactly the right spot for photos. We revisited Kaingo accompanied by friends in 2009 and hope to return again.”
Settings: Nikon D200, 1/4000 sec at f/6.3. Focal 500 mm. ISO 800.
JULY RUNNER UP
by Russell Millner, October 2011
“About 5 years ago, I bought my first DSLR and started to get into (amateur) photography fairly seriously. I now travel widely, from Pole to Pole and wherever I can get to in between! Usually I’ll have a ‘photo-agenda’ of some sort, generally wildlife or landscape. Over the years we’ve travelled in Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa and Namibia, this was our first time in Zambia. South Luangwa was a very special place to visit, and both Kaingo and Mwamba gave us great experiences, I look forward to the day when we can go back.”
