Last night we made our way inland from Mwamba Bush Camp to explore the Mopane forest and its various lagoons. There was plenty of general game and we had great sightings of buffalo and Cookson’s wildebeest (which are endemic to the South Luangwa) after which we parked up for sun-downers and watched the sun dip behind the escarpment.
From there we plugged in the spot light and made our way to Numbu lagoon to find Patrick already there with his spot light fixed upon something. As we drew closer we could make out the distinct shape of a leopard moving through the grass towards the waters edge.
After drinking she made her way towards us completely unfazed by our presence and sat down right in front of the vehicle giving us all a wonderful chance to admire her beauty.
She stayed with for around half an hour moving every now and then but never disappearing from sight until she decided enough was enough for one night and headed off disappearing in the long grass and into the night.
