On September 13th, while on their afternoon drive, our guests Bernard, Sophie, Sylvie and Jean-Francois came across these two lionesses walking with a purpose. Not far was this young waterbuck peacefully resting in the grass.
It all went really fast, and only a few minutes later, dinner was ready!
It is fairly rare to see lions eat waterbucks. Guides always explain that the coat of the antelope contains a water deterrent substance that is not to the predators’ liking, in term of taste. But when the opportunity rises, lions are not so picky.
Even with only one night available to stay at Mwamba, this group of lucky guests had a spectacular time!
Thank you Bernard for sharing these pictures.
