The Mwamba Kaingo pride crossing the Luangwa River.
Patrick Njobvu, our head guide at Shenton Safaris, recently captured the Mwamba Kaingo pride crossing the Luangwa river towards a bachelor herd of buffalo. Watch for the appearance of 2 of the 3 young males that were still with the pride at the time, following hot on the heels of their mother and aunties. We unfortunately could not follow into this area, but at any rate, they were met with stiff opposition on the other side and did not succeed in their endeavours.
Kaingo Camp in the South Luangwa National Park is ideally placed to witness many crossings first hand, with the most famous of them being the crossing of family herds of elephants, especially in the African ebony fruiting years. But we have also witnesses mass crossings of giraffes and other species that one would normally consider as unlikely to cross a crocodile-infested stretch of water.
