There is not much to go around when one young impala is shared between 7 members of the Hollywood pride, and this leaves them picking at scraps . . ..
With mealtimes in the lion kingdom being on a first-come-first-served basis, it is often the older, heavier lions that reap the `lions’ share’.
The scraps are hard-fought over and many a younger lion has been seriously injured when competing for food against its siblings and the rest of the pride. Under natural circumstances, lion cubs have a 5% chance of reaching adulthood – most of them die within their first 2 years with starvation as the primary cause of death.
